DEVESSENTIALS

About DevEssentials

Free developer tools that never see your data.

Why this site exists

Developers paste production JSON, JWTs, connection strings and API keys into online tools every day. Many of those tools send that input to a server, and some keep it. In November 2025 researchers showed that two of the most popular formatters had exposed years of saved user data, including credentials — see what happened with JSONFormatter and CodeBeautify.

DevEssentials is built on a simple rule: formatting, decoding, hashing and generating should happen on your own machine. There is no backend that receives tool input, no save-to-server feature and no account.

How the tools work

Each tool is a static page. Once it has loaded, all processing runs in JavaScript in your browser, using built-in APIs such as JSON.parse, TextEncoder and the Web Crypto API, plus a few open-source libraries bundled into the page. Nothing you type is part of any network request.

Verify it yourself

  1. Open any tool, then open your browser's DevTools and go to the Network tab.
  2. Clear the list, then paste or type something into the tool and run it.
  3. No new request carries your input. You can also load a tool, go offline, and keep using it.

The same check works on any online tool — see how to tell whether a developer tool is server-side.

What the site does collect

We count page views with Vercel Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and does not identify individual visitors. It never receives what you process with the tools. The details are in the privacy policy.

Who's behind it

DevEssentials is built and maintained by Álvaro G.V., who also writes the guides in the Learn section.
